A NOTE FROM
J. L. (Jim) Wilsford,
President SWCA

As the new President of SWCA, I have a big job ahead of me, along with all the new officers. I want to take this opportunity to thank our new officers, new editors, and club and state representatives for their willingness to serve. We are all volunteers with one purpose, that is to make SWCA a strong organization for the promotion of woodcarving and woodcarvers in the southeast. I want to thank each one of you that have rejoined the club. I also want to encourage those who have not rejoined to do so.

We have already made some changes and will make more, as they become necessary. We would like to hear from you as to direction of the SWCA, to your role in this effort, for ways the club can serve your club, and for ways to advance woodcarving in general.

Our membership fee is $15 a year. This is due at the first of each year. These funds are used to publish the newsletter and for co-sponsorship of woodcarving shows in the southeast. Our primary objective is to support the newsletter. The newsletter is our primary means of communication to carvers and organizations located in ten states. We encourage you to mail your dues promptly.

We now have a web site compliments of Michael Denton of Roanoke, Virginia. To access this page, point your web browser to:

https://members.tripod.com/SWCA

Use the case as shown when typing this URL. The account is case sensitive.

In addition to this web site, we have other projects in the works. These will require more volunteers to complete. If you would like to help us, please contact me or another SWCA officer. Complete contact information for the officers is located on our STAFF page.

The SWCA is working on the following projects:

  1. Our most pressing need is for information about events in your area. We would like to know about carving events, ideas for articles for our newsletter editors, ideas for SWCA events, ideas for the web site, or carving patterns to share. We need to know!
  2. Do you have an e-mail address? Do you have a web site? I am compiling a list of members who do. If you want to be on the list, send me an e-mail at JWIL@edge.net. Your information will be put on this list.
  3. Dick Chenoweth also is compiling a list of clubs and contact members. Do you want to add your club’s information to his list? Contact Dick.
  4. Walter Baker, Second Vice President, is working on a plan for SWCA to co-sponsor shows. Walter is working on co-sponsorship with a show in Greenville, SC. If you have a show that would like our assistance, please contact Walter.

How can SWCA help you and/or your club?

How can you help the SWCA?

Thanks in advance for your help and your patience as we move forward

Jim Wilsford
